We Ride It Before We Rank It
We’re a hands-on crew of riders and parents who ride every scooter, board, and wheel before we ever rank it.

Our story: why we started
ScooterMcGoo started in 2019 in a garage that smelled like fresh grip tape and charging batteries. We were the friends and family everyone texted before buying a scooter, a skateboard, or one of those weird-looking electric unicycles. “Is this one any good?” “Will it hold up for my kid?” “Is it worth the money?” We got tired of sending the same long replies, so we built a place to keep them.
What we found out there was frustrating. Too many “review” sites had clearly never touched the gear they were ranking. They reshuffled spec sheets, slapped on a star rating, and called it expertise. We knew riders and parents deserved better, because a board you actually stand on and a scooter your 8-year-old actually rides tell you things a spec sheet never will.
So we made one promise to ourselves and to you: we ride it before we rank it. That’s still the whole point of this site.
How we actually test
Every product we cover gets time on real pavement, not just time on a desk. Here’s what that looks like in practice:
- We ride it ourselves. Hills, cracks, curbs, wet mornings, long commutes, and the occasional bail. Real conditions, not a lab.
- We test for the right rider. A kick scooter for a first-grader and an electric unicycle for a daily commuter get judged by completely different standards. We’re clear about who each ride is for.
- We live with it. We charge batteries dozens of times, check how brakes feel after a month, and see what rattles loose. Durability is earned, not promised.
- We weigh safety first. Stability, braking, build quality, and age-appropriateness matter more to us than top speed bragging rights, especially for the younger riders in your house.
- We sweat the small stuff. Fold mechanisms, deck grip, charge time, replacement parts, and how a company treats you when something breaks.
When something genuinely impresses us, we say so. When it disappoints, we say that too, even when it would be easier and more profitable to stay quiet. You can see how all of this comes together in our hands-on product reviews.
What we cover
If it has wheels and a little bit of attitude, there’s a good chance we’ve ridden it. Our coverage spans the whole world of personal electric mobility and wheeled sports:
- Electric scooters and kick scooters for commuters, campus riders, and first-timers
- Skateboards and electric skateboards for cruising, carving, and getting places fast
- Longboards for the folks who just want a smooth, soulful ride
- Electric unicycles and one-wheels for riders ready to level up
- Mopeds for those who want a little more range and a little more road
New to all of this? Start with our buying guide, where we break down the jargon, the trade-offs, and how to match a ride to your life. Shopping for the little ones? Our roundup of the best electric scooters for kids is the most-loved page on the site, written by parents who’ve sweated these exact decisions. And when you’re ready to browse everything in one place, the shop is open.
Our promise to you
We write for two kinds of people at once, and we never forget either: the rider chasing the perfect setup, and the parent who just wants something safe, fun, and worth the money. Sometimes that’s the same person.
Here’s what you can count on from us:
- No fluff. We get to the point and respect your time.
- Honest verdicts. If we wouldn’t buy it or hand it to our own kids, we’ll tell you.
- Real expertise, warmly delivered. We’re the knowledgeable friend, not the pushy salesperson.
- Riders of all ages welcome. Whether you’re 8 or 68, there’s a ride here for you.
Affiliate transparency
Let’s be straight with you, because that’s the whole brand. ScooterMcGoo is a participant in the Amazon affiliate program. When you buy through some of the links on our site, we may earn a small commission, at no extra cost to you. That’s how we keep the lights on and keep testing new gear.
Here’s the part that matters: those commissions never buy a better review. We rank rides on how they actually perform, full stop. A product doesn’t move up our list because it pays more, and it doesn’t get a free pass because there’s a link attached. If we love it, you’ll know exactly why. If we don’t, we’ll tell you that too.
Thanks for trusting us with the fun, slightly nerve-wracking, totally worth-it decision of picking your next ride. Now let’s go find it.

Frequently asked questions
Do you really test every product yourselves?
Yes. We ride every scooter, board, unicycle, and one-wheel in real conditions — hills, cracks, wet mornings, and long commutes — before we rank it. We also live with each product over time to judge durability, not just first impressions.
How does ScooterMcGoo make money?
We’re a participant in the Amazon affiliate program, so we may earn a small commission when you buy through some of our links, at no extra cost to you. Those commissions never influence our rankings — we rank rides purely on how they perform.
Are your recommendations safe for kids?
Safety comes first in every test, and we weigh stability, braking, build quality, and age-appropriateness heavily. We’re parents too, so for younger riders we always tell you exactly who a ride is right for. Start with our best electric scooters for kids guide.
